The Reality
Chief Medical Officer Vinod Arya was shot dead in Lucknow in October 2010, and CMO B.P. Singh was shot dead in April 2011, both while on morning walks; both men were connected to the NRHM fund-diversion investigation. A suspect held in connection with the killings died in custody, and at least three other officials linked to the case died under suspicious circumstances or were murdered in the years that followed, feeding public suspicion that the deaths were meant to silence witnesses in the larger fund scam. In July 2024, a CBI court in Lucknow sentenced Anand Prakash Tiwari — named as the mastermind in both killings — to life imprisonment, more than thirteen years after the murders and roughly two decades after the underlying NRHM diversions were alleged to have begun.
